Tea Workers

Tea Harvesters in Bangladesh earn roughly .75 USD per day. This is only enough to keep them alive.

During the British colonial period the owners of the tea gardens brought them to Sylhet from different part of India with various promises (employment, land, better life, etc), but they were all deceived. Even today no one cares about them.

The average they earn is less than what you mentioned, which is like 30 taka/day. That's less then 50 cents. :(

Russell, yeah we got a wide level of reports. Someone mentioned that if they havested more they would get payed more, but it was not confirmed. It is troubling regardless.

I'm pretty sure BRAC teachers make even less? Did you ever get to meet any of them?
